post to marquee
You can celebrate your child’s Birthday or Congratulate your child on an accomplishment by putting it on the marquee in front of the school. We will post the first name ONLY of the student for 1 week. We will accept the application forms on a first come first serve basis. Please get your forms in at least 1 week before you would like it posted. The cost is $10.00. Please include this form and cash or check payable to JMPTO to the school office.
Lost & Found
Lost and found is located outside the main foyer.
All students are asked to stay in the playground in the morning where there is supervision. The school bell rings at 8:25 a.m. This bell serves two purposes. The first purpose is middle school students are beginning class. The second purpose is it serves as a warning bell for 1st - 5th grade students. When the bell rings the students will have a chance to use the restroom or get a drink of water before class begins. A whistle will be blown by yard duty and students will line up in the playground area with their class. They will then proceed to walk to class in a quiet manner.
Each Friday the blue plastic "Friday Folder" will be sent home with your child. This is an effort to improve communication between the school and home. Look over all the material and return signed forms in the envelope promptly on Monday morning (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday). It is important envelopes are returned since new information will be placed in the envelopes throughout the week. If your child does not return the envelope, we cannot guarantee you will be provided with timely school information.
The blue envelopes are waterproof and will last all year. Students will be required to have a Home Envelope. Should your child misplace or lose and envelope, you will need to purchase a replacement envelope in the office for a dollar donation.
During September, we had two visits from consultants from the International Baccalaureate Organization who observed classrooms and talked with students and staff. These visits provided us with important feedback to help us as we implement our IB Programme of Inquiry. Both consultants complimented the staff and students for the work we have done so far and encouraged us to submit our final application for authorization. On October 1st, we submitted our application for both the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes. This application will be followed by a visit in the spring to complete this verification process. Our Michell staff and students are to be commended for their hard work throughout this process. We are one step closer to becoming an IB World School. Thank you for all of your continued support. I couldn’t be more proud of our school community.
Kids Against Hunger Meal Packing Event
On Thursday, October 30th, Joe Michell students in 2nd through 8th grade will participate in meal-packing for the charity Kids Against Hunger, dedicated to feeding hungry children around the world. Students can participate in fundraising donations for the cost of the food that they will be bagging -- $5 will pay for the meals one student will bag, but greater donations are encouraged. Please bring your donations in cash and/or checks (payable to Kids Against Hunger) to school by Thursday, October 30th. Students who are unable to fundraise the full $5 will still be allowed to participate in the meal packing event.
Permission slips (in English and Spanish) for the event can be found here.
More information about Kids Against Hunger can be found here.

Joe Michell Jog-A-Thon! Friday, November 7th, 2014
The Joe Michell Jog-A-Thon is here! This is a fun event that promotes a healthy lifestyle while fundraising for our school. Our Jog-A-Thon track is approximately 1/4 mile. Students will run or walk as many laps as they can for 25 minutes during their scheduled time. We estimate that students will run between 5-20 laps. Rain or shine, we envision the day to be filled with school spirit, music, laughter and exercise!
This year if each student just raises $20, we could bring in more than $11,000!
MATHCOUNTS Club for Middle School Every Thursday at Lunch in P3
MATHCOUNTS helps ensure that all students have access to interesting math and have the opportunity to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. With the support of a robust network of over 17,000 educators, alumni, engineers and other professionals, we are able to reach students in all 50 states, in addition to U.S. territories and schools worldwide through the State Department and Department of Defense. Each year, over a quarter million students are exposed to MATHCOUNTS materials or participate in our programs.
MATHCOUNTS is effective because we provide students with experiences that simply cannot be replicated in theclassroom. An experience with MATHCOUNTS can mean the difference between self-doubt and self-confidence. It can turn today’s math students into tomorrow’s innovators, scientists, engineers and doctors.
The Imagination Playground is play space concept conceived and designed by internationally acclaimed architect David Rockwell. The mission of Imagination Playground is to encourage child-directed, unstructured creative “free play,” the kind of play that experts say is critical to a child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional development. Free play leads to creative minds, which in turn will lead to greater innovation in all aspects of human endeavor and problem solving.

Lunch procedures for Elementary School Students
Each student has an identification card with their name and picture on it. These cards are passed out to the students before lunch time. During lunch service, each student swipes their card through a card reader which brings up their account for the cafeteria assistant to view. The computer automatically tracks each student’s personal account.
Please click here to view more information about lunch procedures.
