All students are asked to stay in the playground in the morning where there is supervision. The school bell rings at 8:25 a.m. This bell serves two purposes. The first purpose is middle school students are beginning class. The second purpose is it serves as a warning bell for 1st - 5th grade students. When the bell rings the students will have a chance to use the restroom or get a drink of water before class begins. A whistle will be blown by yard duty and students will line up in the playground area with their class. They will then proceed to walk to class in a quiet manner.

This year’s test results will be reported back to parents and the school. Please note that our testing dates are:
May 4-8: 8th grade testing
May 11-15: 7th grade testing
May 18-21: 6th grade testing
All 6th through 8th grade students will attend school on these dates at the regular start and end times. There will be some schedule modifications within the school day, but this will not affect the start and end times for the school day.

Electronic flyers delivered via peachjar
The paper flyers we have been sending home will now be sent electronically to your inbox. These eflyers can also be viewed by clicking on the Peachjar button that has been placed on each school’s website homepage. This “green” initiative will save our schools tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. On top of that, it is our belief that this paperless delivery of school flyers will ensure important information gets delivered directly to you in a more efficient manner.
No action is required on your part. You will receive a welcome email from the “Peachjar” the service provider that will include a username and password. This is provided to give you the opportunity to manage your account and flyer delivery preferences. You do not need to login to receive or view eflyers.
To ensure smooth delivery of this communication, we suggest you add “email@example.com” to your email contacts. Note: add “firstname.lastname@example.org” to your contact list just as written; DO NOT change it to the name of your school @peachjar.com. When you receive your first eflyer, be sure to click “always display images.”
If you do not receive an email from Peachjar, it could mean your email address is not on file with your school, or there is an error with the address on file. Please see your school office to inquire.
This system is used exclusively for distribution of school-approved flyers. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose.
Thank you for helping us save time, money, and LOTS of trees!
During September, we had two visits from consultants from the International Baccalaureate Organization who observed classrooms and talked with students and staff. These visits provided us with important feedback to help us as we implement our IB Programme of Inquiry. Both consultants complimented the staff and students for the work we have done so far and encouraged us to submit our final application for authorization. On October 1st, we submitted our application for both the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes. This application will be followed by a visit in the spring to complete this verification process. Our Michell staff and students are to be commended for their hard work throughout this process. We are one step closer to becoming an IB World School. Thank you for all of your continued support. I couldn’t be more proud of our school community.

Health Alert from your School Nurses
Alameda County has confirmed 5 cases of measles in 2015, and is investigating many other suspect cases. Four of these cases are associated with the Disneyland outbreak. As of 1/16/15, 41 cases of measles have been confirmed in California, 36 with similar exposure to Disneyland parks, and 5 others confirmed in other states and 1 in Mexico. Outbreaks such as this are a reminder that all children and adults should make sure that they are either immune or have been vaccinated against measles. For assistance in obtaining access to health care and vaccines, please contact your school site nurse.

American Indian Education Program
The Livermore American Indian Center, serving students of American Indian/Alaskan Native heritage in the Livermore Valley and Castro Valley public schools, is searching for students of American Indian/Alaskan Native heritage who are age 4 through grade 12. When these students are identified and signed up for the Title VII Program, they are eligible for free services including a weekly cultural class, tutoring, field trips, scholarships, summer day camp, and parent-sponsored monthly business meeting.
If you know of any students who are eligible for the Title VII Program, please have their parents contact the Livermore American Indian Center at (925) 606-4748, ext. 3 or email: email@example.com
Blue Envelope Program
Each Friday the blue plastic "Friday Folder" will be sent home with your child. This is an effort to improve communication between the school and home. Look over all the material and return signed forms in the envelope promptly on Thursday morning. It is important envelopes are returned since new information will be placed in the envelopes throughout the week. If your child does not return the envelope, we cannot guarantee you will be provided with timely school information.
The blue envelopes are waterproof and will last all year. Students will be required to have a Home Envelope. Should your child misplace or lose and envelope, you will need to purchase a replacement envelope in the office for a dollar donation.

Before and After School
Parents are asked to remain in the front of the school before/after school. This helps to keep a quiet learning environment for those students who are already in class. We want to have the most productive environment for your child's education. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a safe and happy school year.
