Changes to California's Child Safety Seat Laws.

A new law went into effect January 1, 2012. Acknowledging that seat belts fit a taller child appropriately, the new law includes a provision that a child under 8 years of age who is 4 feet 9 inches in height or taller may be properly restrained by a safety belt rather than a child safety seat or booster seat.

Children in the 6-7 year old age group are particularly at risk because they may be too big for many child safety seats and yet too small to fully benefit from seat belts. A booster seat raises the child to reposition the seat belt properly so that the lap belt lies snugly across the upper thighs rather than the stomach. The shoulder harness should lie snug across the shoulder and chest – the strongest part of the child’s body – and not cross the neck or face.

To read the entire bill, click here.

VACCINE LAW

All students who do not have proof of receiving a Tdap booster shot will not be able to start school in the fall until proof (yellow immunization card or immunization print out from your physician's office) is provided.  Click here for more information.

Envelope Program

Each Friday the blue plastic "Friday Folder" will be sent home with your child.  This is an effort to improve communication between the school and home.  Look over all the material and return signed forms in the envelope promptly on Monday morning (Tuesday if Monday is a holiday).  It is important envelopes are returned since new information will be placed in the envelopes throughout the week.  If your child does not return the envelope, we cannot guarantee you will be provided with timely school information.

blueenvelope.jpg

The blue envelopes are waterproof and will last all year.  Students will be required to have a Home Envelope.  Should your child misplace or lose and envelope, you will need to purchase a replacement envelope in the office for a dollar donation.

Library News

The following students have reached their AR goals    for the school year!! Congrats to fourth graders Nathan Woolsey, Caitlin Miller, and Abigail Lentz. They are joined by second grade student Jenny Nguyen. Be sure to give them all a high five! There are a number of students that are close, and will meet their goals soon. Check the list on the Library window.

We are reading some new titles in the Library this month, and the 4th, 5th and 6th grades enjoyed watching some book trailers (previews) on some new titles. Ask your student about this - we really enjoyed this new way of previewing new books.

Volunteers Needed!

Remember your 2 hour volunteer pledge?  We have lots of opportunities to fulfill those hours.  Currently we are looking for volunteers for a variety of  jobs.  If you can help, please contact the PTO volunteer coordinator Sarah Woolsey at sbwools@comcast.net.  She has a variety of tasks that we need help with throughout the school.

Morning Bell

All students are asked to stay in the playground in the morning where there is supervision.  The school bell rings at 8:25 a.m.  This bell serves two purposes.  The first purpose is middle school students are beginning class.  The second purpose is it serves as a warning bell for 1st - 5th grade students.  When the bell rings the students will have a chance to use the restroom or get a drink of water before class begins.  A whistle will be blown by yard duty and students will line up in the playground area with their class.  They will then proceed to walk to class in a quiet manner.

Before and After School

Parents are asked to remain in the front of the school before/after school.  This helps to keep a quiet learning environment for those students who are already in class.  We want to have the most productive environment for your child's education.  We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to a safe and happy school year.
